Senua’s Saga is the Hellblade sequel, set in the timeline after the events of the first part, in the 10th century. This translates into the personality of the main character, who, in the new part, although she has not ultimately defeated her demons, has learned to control them much better. It’s worth noting – if you haven’t played the first part and are not familiar with this character – that Senua suffers from psychosis, which she herself sees as a curse. She inherited it from her mother, but her difficult childhood under the watchful eye of a tyrant father only exacerbated its course. Thus, visual and auditory hallucinations and visions constantly accompany her.

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II is the highly anticipated sequel to the award-winning Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, a game that got to be recognized as an immersive experience with outstanding visuals and incredible audio solutions. Now, the second instalment cranks it up to eleven, making the next part of Senua’s story an even greater narrative journey. The game’s studio, Ninja Theory, used every tool possible in the pursuit after immersion, so you can embark on a dark and visceral journey through a hauntingly beautiful world inspired by Norse mythology and Senua’s personal struggles with psychosis as the game dives deeper into her psyche, exploring her own personal demons. And be sure that, as with the original title, the story here is a compelling exploration of mental illness, resilience, and the human spirit that will leave you breathless until the final line in credits.
In the first game, Vikings destroyed Senua’s village on the Scottish island of Orkney and sacrificed her lover, Dillion, to the Norse gods. To save his soul, you had to lead Senua to the Helheim underworld. In the sequel, Senua expands her horizons as she navigates the turbulent North Sea to Iceland in pursuit of the ones responsible for his death. It’s a fresh journey that explores her mind and the dangerous world around her after facing the darkness within herself and fighting the evil spirits of her past in the first game, but her quest intertwines with the myths of gods like Odin, Thor, and Hel, each encounter revealing more about her own struggle and the larger battle. It’s a story of the myths and nightmares of Viking Iceland, and thanks to the Ninja Theory studio’s choice to transition to Unreal Engine 5, those become very much alive on screen. Developers decided to visit Iceland, Scotland, and Wales to capture thousands of photos to create a cutting-edge and convincing world that is becoming alive and believable by basing it on real-world sources and intense motion-captured sessions that make you forget that you are playing the game. Senua’s metahuman facial rendering with its translucent skin shading, lifelike eyes, and pitch-perfect teeth, along with superb animation coming straight from an incredible motion-captured performance by Melina Juergens, make this an even more immersive experience.
It’s stunning, impressive, and it’s going to be the title to compare next-gen visuals to for years to come.
Dive deep into Senua’s psyche.
Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II is more than just a physical journey focused on visuals; it’s a deeply psychological one. Relentless voices and visions haunt Senua, manifestations of her severe psychosis. These hallucinations are not just narrative elements but integral parts of the gameplay, creating an experience that constantly challenges your perception of reality. To achieve immersion and blend reality, the studio used haunting sounds created with cutting-edge binaural audio. You are feeling as if the voices in Senua’s head were, in reality, whispering straight into your ear. It creates a chilling and immersive experience that blurs the line between game and reality, and when you play the game on Xbox Series X|S or on Windows 10, you definitely need to use headphones for the ultimate audio experience.
